Christmas Bells Jingling All The Way!

The tinkling of bells is no doubt a harbinger of good times. Be it the announcements of the birth of Jesus Christ or the joyous spirit of Christmas, bells have been an integral part of all Christmas celebrations. The holy tunes of the ‘jingle bell’ beckons people to join in the celebrations of one of the most widely observed festivals-Christmas.

Be it the melodious carols, poems or decorations, bells find their mention in almost all aspects of Christmas. Ringing of the Christmas bell is a time honored tradition since the pagan winter celebrations. It was a tradition to ward off evil spirits with the help of noisemakers. Among the early noise makers were the bells. People generally had fun ringing these bells and making noise. Even to this day bells are rung at churches to call people to gather for prayer or announcements.

Besides this, can we ever imagine Santa Claus without Christmas bells? The bells and his red garb are symbolic of the renowned festival. During Christmas, gifts are exchanged between family members and friends. And Santa Claus is believed to drop by, on the eve of Christmas and leave Christmas gifts near the Christmas tree for little children.

As December approaches, members of the family get together and clean the house. Christmas tree is decorated with suitable Christmas decorations. A pair of bells tied with a satin ribbon is fixed on the door at the entrance, to welcome goodness and fortune into the household. The Christmas star also finds a prominent place along with the bell in all decorations. Christmas gifts are wrapped exquisitely and placed near the Christmas tree.

Come December and you will hear Christmas carols being sung, so much so that even non Christians in India get into the festive mood. Be it the carols that are sung till the wee hours or the act of charity that the Christians are so familiar with; Christmas is indeed a time of carousing. This December bring in the secular spirit by getting into the festive mood irrespective of cast and creed.
